Academic Year 2025/2026

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Italian Studies and European Literary Cultures (cod. 6689)

Learning outcomes

The course aims to offer the methodological assumptions of bibliographic research, through the examination of the main resources, in order to guide students in the preparation of the section "references" of their degree thesis. Resources on both traditional and digital support will be analyzed.

Course contents

1. Bibliography: resources and collections, also in the digital context; the reference bibliography.

2. Bibliographic research: identifying and evaluating information resources (bibliographic repertories, catalogues, digital archives, encyclopedias, dictionaries, search engines, portals, databases, periodicals).

3. Bibliographic citation and reference work: using and citing the resources (citation styles, editorial rules).

4. Special bibliographic research for literary disciplines: sources in the Italian, European and international context, with particular reference to students' research fields.

5. Zotero: an easy-to-use tool to collect, organize, annotate, cite, and share bibliographic resources.

Teaching methods

Lectures and classroom exercises. Visit and exercises in two libraries of the University of Bologna are supposed to be scheduled as well.

Assessment methods

Students will be asked to write a bibliographic note, which will be discussed during an oral exam. The same exam will also include questions on the contents of the texts chosen among the suggested ones (see section "Readings/Bibliography").

The assessment will consider especially the knowledge of the course contents and the ability to use effectively the terminology associated with the subject. In particular, the ability to use the contents studied in drafting the bibliographic note prepared for the exam will be evaluated.

Teaching tools

IT tools and online resources will be used.

Students with learning disorders and/or temporary or permanent disabilities: please, contact the office responsible (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en/for-students ) as soon as possible so that they can propose acceptable adjustments. The request for adaptation must be submitted in advance (15 days before the exam date) to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of the adjustments, taking into account the teaching objectives.
