Learning outcomes

The seminar aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in international moot court competitions, with specific regard to the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and the Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition. Participants will gain insights into the international procedural law, legal argumentation and oral advocacy. The seminar will cover relevant case law, legal research techniques, and strategies for effective presentation in a moot court setting. Additionally, participants will explore the cultural and diplomatic aspects of these competitions, enhancing their overall understanding of global legal practice

Course contents

The workshop is dedicated to students who are passionate about international arbitration and private and procedural international law.

The lessons will have a theoretical and practical content and will  be dedicated to the subjects covered by the Willem C Vis Moot and the Pax Moot, the two international competitions for which Prof. Lupoi organizes and prepares a team of students from the Department of Legal Sciences every year.

In particular, the topics of international arbitration and private international law of the European Union will be explored, with the participation of external lecturers and professionals.

Readings/Bibliography

Prof. Lupoi will provide participants with supplementary materials to further explore the topics covered in class.

Teaching methods

The workshop will be theoretical and practical in nature. Students will be invited to discuss the topics covered in class, with reference to hypothetical cases.

Assessment methods

The final exam will consist of a written paper in which students will answer questions related to a hypothetical case based on topics covered in class.

Students interested in being selected for the Vis Moot and Pax Moot 2027 teams will also participate in a mock oral trial.
