Course contents

After a brief introduction, aspects of Italian Sign Language (LIS) linguistics will be covered, along with an overview of Deaf culture and the history of institutions for the Deaf.

In the practical section, an A1.1 level of language acquisition will be proposed, including self-introduction, family, home, hobbies, and daily activities.

Lecture-based teaching.

Assessment methods

Theoretical interview in Italian and personal presentation in Sign Language.

The overall assessment is described as follows:
Failing grade is assigned when the student lacks knowledge of the minimum course content, appropriate specialized vocabulary, the ability to converse in sign language, as well as independent judgment, analytical skills, argumentation, and the ability to communicate content;
Grades from 18 to 23/30 indicate an acceptable level of performance based on the evaluation criteria;
Grades from 24 to 25/30 indicate a more than sufficient performance;
Grades from 26 to 27/30 indicate a good performance;
Grades from 28 to 30/30 indicate an excellent performance, while 30/30 with honors indicates outstanding performance.

Use of distance learning platform, PowerPoint presentations, and online research.
