Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students will acquire knowledge of the procedures and methodology related to the study of behavior and communicative processes.

Course contents

Methods for scientific research and methods for studying basic psychological processes. Study designs in research: experimental design, correlation, descriptive. Definition of dependent and independent variables; control group; control conditions.

Behavioral measures; neuropsychology, the study of patients to investigate the neural bases of mental functions; the function of emotions; the relationship between emotions and cognition; emotion regulation.

Readings/Bibliography

The slides presented in the classroom and the related scientific articles will be available on Virtuale.

Teaching methods

The course includes practical exercises carried out in the classroom by students individually, in pairs, or in small groups.

 

The laboratory activities include:

  • Practical sessions on methods for studying basic psychological processes

  • Activities involving the observation of responses to stress

  • Exercises focused on the communication of medical-scientific information

Assessment methods

The Laboratory grants eligibility, which is required for the official recording ("verbalization") of the Integrated Course (CI) in General Psychology.

The final grade for the CI will correspond to the mark obtained in the General Psychology exam.

To obtain eligibility for the Laboratory, students must:

  • Participate in at least two practical activities

  • Present a scientific article selected from those proposed during the course

The article will be presented as part of a group activity in class.

During the lessons, students will receive examples of critical commentary as well as guidelines and formats to be used for the presentation.
