Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student possesses knowledge, to the extent of his/her competence, relating to healthcare activities in the field of physiopathology and medical semiotics of adulthood and geriatrics.

Course contents

1. Internal Medicine

Liver and biliary tract diseases:

- Anatomy and clinical physiology
- Clinical manifestations
- Laboratory evaluation
- Liver and biliary tract diseases: acute hepatitis, chronic hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunction (MAFLD), drug-induced liver disease, liver cirrhosis, cholelithiasis

2. Connective tissues diseases

- Clinical anatomy
- Autoimmunity
- Laboratory evaluation
- Connective tissues diseases: rheumatoid arthritis, seronegative spondyloarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, Sjögren's syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus, progressive systemic sclerosis, polymyositis and dermatomyositis, anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome, mixed connective tissue.

3. Geriatrics

- Aging and atypical presentation of diseases
- Frailty and functional decline
- Complexity of the elderly patient
- Geriatric syndromes
- Cognitive decline
- Delirium
- Falls
- Sarcopenia
- Pharmacotherapy in the elderly
- Nutrition in the elderly

Written exam: multiple choice questions.
