Learning outcomes
The student knows the strategies, techniques, traditional and state-of-the-art tools and methods used in specialized translation tasks; s/he is able to apply them to the translation of technical and scientific texts from different genres and text types, from French into Italian, meeting specific translation briefs and respecting the communicative functions of the source texts; s/he knows the basic techniques required for information mining, drafting, editing and revising texts, including the overall quality evaluation of the translated text.
Course contents
This module (40 hours) aims at enhancing the students’ translation knowledge acquired through previous translation courses, in order to develop professional translation skills. During the course, the students will be dealing with different kinds of technical texts. Special care will be taken to enhance documentation strategies, and accuracy and reliability of documentation. CAT/automatic translation and corpus query tools, i.e. IT tools usually used in the profession, will also be introduced and practiced during the course. Students will be introduced to the analysis of raw versions produced by automatic engines. The module also focuses on pre and post-editing, QA and proofreading.

Teaching methods
The module includes a series of classes, during which the class will be invited to translate, review, and analyze the texts proposed by the teacher. The teacher will provide feedback to the class, in order to develop strategies for a professional approach to translation.
The module requires compulsory attendance (70% classroom attendance).
As concerns the teaching methods of this course unit, all students must attend the online Modules 1, 2 on Health and Safety [https://www.unibo.it/en/services-and-opportunities/health-and-assistance/health-and-safety/online-course-on-health-and-safety-in-study-and-internship-areas].
Assessment methods
In the final written exam, students will be required to translate a specialized text of about 300 words, similar to those dealt with during the course, and to justify its own choices. Students will be allowed to use CAT tools and any resources collected and created during the module, as well as dictionaries, glossaries, and documents available on the Internet.
The exam will take place in a computer lab by using EOL platform and Zoom, and will last three hours.
For the grade, it is necessary to take into account the final written exam (see the evaluation methods indicated below) and any bonuses earned during the course from mandatory and/or optional exercises available on the course's virtual platform.
The final grade will be calculated as a mathematical average with the complementary module worth 5 CFU as provided by the study program (with any rounding generally in favour)
Evaluation methods:
30-30L: Excellent level. The candidate possesses excellent translation skills, with a very high level of competence in the target language.
27-29: Above average level. The candidate makes only minor errors, and shows a solid command of the required skills and competences.
24–26: Generally sound level. The candidate displays a number of shortcomings, indicating a reasonable command of the required skills and competences.
21-23: Adequate level. The candidate displays significant shortcomings and only an adequate command of the required skills and competences.
18–20: Minim level. The candidate only meets the minimum level required and shows a minimal command of the required skills and competences.
< 18 Fail: The candidate does not meet the required standard and shows a wholly inadequate command of the required skills and competences. The candidate will have to repeat the examination.
Students with learning disorders and\or temporary or permanent disabilities

Teaching tools
Classes are held in a computer lab where PCs with Internet access and CAT tools are available to students, in order to allow individual and group work.
