Learning outcomes
The course forms students able to analyze and understand the urban and territorial setting and consequently to define new urban planning and design frameworks;
they knows the Italian planning framework, the urban planning tools, levels and sectors, as well as the techniques for elaborating an urban project.
the course foresees an urban design workshop, where to analyze and design a mxed use neighbourhood through a regenerative inervention
Course contents
Theoretical framework:
The birth of urban planning and first theories and utopias.
Urban planning in the Italian context: main laws and approaches. The municipal urban plan and its role and functioning
main planning techniques and methods: Zoning, building rights, urban planning standards, urban strategies.
The implementation of the urban plan. Expropriation and urban values impact
site analysis: topics and methods
from sprawl to conservation of historical centers and urban regeneration: policies and experiences.
sustainability in planning principles
Practical exercises
urban intervention sizing, use of indices, urban plansconsultation
design workshop
analysis and detection of urban features (morphology, uses, public spaces) with support of QGIS software; definition of a design concept for the studied area
