Learning outcomes

The Internship plays a highly important formative-practical role in this course. At the end of the internship, preparatory to the development of the experimental part constituted by the thesis, the student is able to autonomously organize and manage his own research project, as well as to independently document and update himself in this regard. The student can do the internship in the same lab for the thesis, or alternatively he can select another one.

Course contents

The internship and thesis activities are structured to include both mandatory and elective components, each with a defined number of CFU (Crediti Formativi Universitari) and corresponding practical hours.

The mandatory component consists of the Thesis (code 27237), which carries a total of 20 CFU. This includes 12 CFU (equivalent to 300 hours) of practical activity and 8 CFU dedicated to writing and final discussion, for which no specific hours are assigned. In addition, the Curricular Internship (code 82287) accounts for 4 CFU and involves 100 hours of practical activity. Together, these mandatory activities amount to a total of 400 hours of practical work.

Students may also choose an elective internship activity (code B4119) titled "Internship activities to enhance experimental work for thesis preparation," which adds 6 CFU and 150 hours of practical activity. When this elective is included, the total practical workload increases to 550 hours.

Generally, a full-time internship week is considered equivalent to 25 hours of activity. Based on this, the required 400-550 hours of practical activities correspond to approximately 5-6 months of activity, if performed without interruptions.

The hours can be completed entirely in the same laboratory.
