Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student acquires the ability to analyze the cultivation of herbaceous species based on their sustainability, productivity and adaptability. This implies knowledge of agronomic and physiological characteristics of the species and how they can be modified by management practices.

Course contents

The course is organized in 3 modules: module 1 (herbaceous crops 1 - 30 hours) during which the main cereal crops are treated with regard to: physiology, cultivation, and qualitative traits; module 2 (herbaceous crops 2 - 30 hours) dedicated to oil crops and pulses; module 3 (herbaceous crops 3 - 20 hours) dedicated to sugar and forage crops. In each module exercises will be carried out in the form of seminars, educational visits and recognition of plants and seeds and exam simulation.

Assessment methods

The exam includes all three modules in one. It consists of a multiple-choice quiz accessible only to students who have passed the plant and seed recognition test. The procedures for carrying out the recognition test and the multiple choice quiz are shown below.

- Recognition test: the student is shown 4 photos of plants and given 3 samples of seeds of different species (therefore 7 questions). The test is considered 'passed' (suitability) with at least 6 correct answers. The recognition test is preparatory to the quiz test (described below). The eligibility remains valid for 3 years and is not repeated if the student does not pass the quiz test. In this case he will have to repeat only the latter. It is allowed to take the recognition tests and quiz in two different exam sessions.

- Multiple choice quiz: 25 multiple choice questions (4-5 answer options). The questions all have the same value. The wrong answer involves a penalty equal to 50% of the value of the question. The non-answer does not involve any penalty. You have 30 minutes to complete the quiz. It is possible to refuse the vote within 3 working days of the communication of the results by sending an email to a.monti@unibo.it with the subject: 'reject the vote of the EC quiz carried out on xx/yy/zz'. In case of acceptance of the vote, it is not necessary to send any communication.

Only students registered on Alma Esami can access the exams (recognition tests and quizzes). Applications will not be accepted after registration closes.
