Learning outcomes

Students at the end of the seminar will acquire high standard knowledge and skills directly from experts in the fashion fields, alongside special lectures held by scholars and researchers.

Course contents

The seminar aims to introduce the students to the knowledge of a valuable “method of analysis”, that will accompany them throughout their professional career, allowing them to learn what ultimately counts in every season. What is going to be presented is the method used, par excellence, by journalists, experts of the communication, designers, buyers and professionals. At the end of this course each student will be able to do independently an analysis of the trends.

Seminar: Trends Analysis: how to read catwalk shows

How can we spot the latest new trends? What is going to be cool? How do we find the upcoming season trends in advance? How are trends organized into sections and groups?

We will be able to answer these questions by using the “analysis method”. During the seminar it will be presented a path of research and application of the most correct analysis tools, thanks to which the students will be able to carry out the analysis of a theme (a different theme will be assigned to each student or group). Through the images drawn from the most prestigious collections of international brands, it will be possible create a “ Trends Book”, that it will contain the most meticulous and comprehensive summary of the contemporary collections.

The hazy initial view, step by step, will become a clear, precise and infallible vision of the trends of the next season.

Teaching methods

Theory lessons will be integrated by case studies and specific assignments, to be presented to the class by the students themselves. Active participation will be requested and encouraged.

Final project elaboration and presentation.

Teaching tools

We will use power point slides concerning course's topics.

It's strongly suggested to each student to have a computer with internet access.
