Learning outcomes
The student knows the basic strategies of language mediation and is able to use them in basic communication situations.
Course contents
This Mediazione module teaches the bases of linguistic mediation through the use of simulations of basic level interpreter-mediated exchanges. Its aim is to provide students with the necessary skills to act as interpreters in less formal settings (ex. introducing people, going shopping, booking a room, ordering food, etc.).
This course introduces the practice of sight translation both from and into Russian. Other activities (such as speech reformulation, reading, exercises aimed at improving speaking and writing skills and memory, preparation of glossaries, etc.) will also be included.
In particular, the course provides students with an insight into aspects of society and every-day life in Russian-speaking countries (with a special focus on habits and holidays, history, religion, economics and politics, etc.).
At the end of the course, the students will be able to understand and deliver oral speeches in Russian, as well as act as interpreters for the Italian-Russian language combination in informal and less formal settings.

Teaching methods
The students will be actively involved in role play simulations and sight translation exercises, including also exercises for improving comprehension, speaking skills and memory.
Assessment methods
Written exam: a test (approx. length: 2 hours) to assess the language skills acquired during the course.
Oral exam: the student will be involved in the mediation of a bilingual exchange and a sight translation test between Russian and Italian.
The final mark for the Mediazione module will then be averaged out (at 50%) against the mark of the Language and culture module.
