Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes - BIPs

BIPs are short-term transnational study programmes, characterised by a mobility period carried out in person (from 5 to 30 days) and a teaching activity carried out online.

Each BIP awards participants at least 3 ECTS credits that can be recognised in their academic record.

At least three European universities holding an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) are involved in delivering a BIP, one as coordinator and at least two as partners.

In particular, universities can take on the following roles:

• Coordinating institution: its task is to coordinate the BIP at the organisational level, as well as to receive and manage the funding to support its organisation. Usually, the coordinating university is also the “receiving institution”, unless otherwise agreed; if the BIP is hosted at a university other than the coordinating one, the coordinator also becomes a “sending institution”;
• Receiving institution: this is where in-person activities take place and generally coincides with the coordinating university;
• Sending institution: each university from which BIP participants come. The BIP coordinating university may take on the role of “sending institution” if the in-person activities take place at another location;
• Co-hosting organisation: part of the in-person activity (e.g. a professional internship) may also take place at a company, an association, a public body or another university located in the same country as the “receiving institution”.

Every year the University of Bologna publishes a call for applications, usually in February, with the offers available for BIPs held in spring and summer. If the University is a partner in BIPs held in autumn and winter, a second call for applications is also published.

The offers published concern exclusively BIPs in which the University of Bologna appears as a partner university, based on the expressions of interest received from the departments. It is not possible to apply independently via Unibo for other types of BIP.

Students can apply via AlmaRM, where the ranking lists will also be published.

After accepting the mobility place, successful applicants will receive instructions on the administrative procedures to be completed.

PhD students will also receive any specific instructions by email from the offices.

Before the start of the BIP, students are required to:

• submit a Learning Agreement and obtain its approval;
• complete and sign the mobility agreement, which sets out the main rights and obligations of Erasmus+ students during the mobility period.

At the end of the BIP, students are required to:

• submit the certificate of attendance stating the dates on which the in-person and online activities took place;
• upload the Transcript of Records and submit the request for recognition of the activity carried out.
