Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the laboratory, students will have acquired skills in the methods and techniques for the real-time visualization of three-dimensional digital models, as well as in project presentation techniques within interactive environments for evaluation purposes and photorealistic rendering.
Course contents
Upon completion of the laboratory, students will have acquired skills in the theoretical and technical aspects of real-time visualization of three-dimensional digital models.
The course introduces the different types of real-time visualization and their applications for project presentation.
Students will learn how to manage the various stages involved in preparing a model within a real-time rendering environment, including:
- importing NURBS and mesh models;
- managing project databases;
- applying and modifying materials;
- configuring and managing lighting;
- animating model components;
- interacting with the virtual scene.

Teaching methods
The course is organized through lectures covering theoretical topics and practical sessions focused on the use of software applications employed in the laboratory activities, complemented by a series of group exercises.
Students will be eligible to take the final examination only if they have attended at least 70% of the classes and have completed the required laboratory exercises.
Given the laboratory-based nature of the course, students are reminded of the importance of appropriate conduct in the classroom, particularly to prevent potential accidents and injuries. Students are therefore encouraged to complete Modules 1 and 2 of the safety training programme through the e-learning platform and to attend Module 3, which provides specific training on health and safety in study and learning environments. Information regarding dates and attendance procedures for Module 3 can be found in the dedicated section of the Degree Programme website.
Assessment methods
The final assessment will be based on an overall evaluation. The final grade will be determined by the results achieved in the ongoing assessments and the group exercises completed throughout the course.
Teaching tools
The course will make use of the computer laboratory and the Autodesk VRED real-time rendering software, together with other applications that will be introduced and demonstrated during the lectures.
