Understanding the Psychosocial Context and Developing Relational and Communication Competencies: The course will enable students to recognise the influence of psychosocial and contextual factors on treatment effectiveness and clinical outcomes by exploring the psychoneurobiological, communicative, relational, and ethical mechanisms underlying placebo and nocebo effects. As placebo and nocebo effects represent one of the strongest bodies of scientific evidence demonstrating the impact of communication and the therapeutic relationship on health outcomes, they provide the conceptual framework for this educational component. Through an additional experiential module dedicated to communication and patient–provider interaction, students will further develop their relational and communication skills. This module will consolidate competencies acquired during the first year before clinical placements and foster their progressive development following the first and second years of training, promoting a more mature, reflective, and patient-centred professional approach. The integration of these competencies is expected to enhance therapeutic relationships, improve communication with patients, and ultimately contribute to higher-quality care, in line with the needs identified through consultation with external stakeholders.
