Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to optimization problems, to the fundamental concepts of computational complexity theory, and to the main algorithmic techniques for solving linear and integer linear programming formulations
Course contents
The course provides an introduction to decision and optimization problems, with a particular focus on Linear Programming (LP) and Integer Linear Programming (ILP). Students will learn how to formulate mathematical models for a range of relevant optimization problems and apply appropriate solution techniques.
Students are expected to have a basic background in set theory, vector and matrix algebra, as well as fundamental programming skills. Familiarity with coding and algorithmic thinking is considered a prerequisite.

Teaching methods
The course consists of lectures and class exercises.
The lectures discuss the theoretical and algorithmic aspects of the various arguments. For each argument some case studies will be presented and analyzed.Assessment methods
The final examination consists of both a written and an oral exam, which are held on the same day. The final grade is determined by the overall performance in both components.
