Learning outcomes

At the end of the training activity, the student: - Knows the main theories and techniques of school counseling - Knows the main methodologies for evaluating the processes and outcomes of school counseling programs - Is able to design, implement, and evaluate counseling interventions in schools - Is able to use the main counseling methodologies to promote the functioning of teaching/learning programs and the well-being of individuals and groups in the school context.

Course contents

The course will address the following topics:

  • understanding the main theoretical models of school counseling;
  • analyzing educational needs and requests for counseling;
  • designing individual and group counseling interventions;
  • using active listening, effective communication, and problem-solving techniques;
  • collaborating with teachers, families, and community services;
  • promoting psychological well-being and school inclusion;
  • reflecting on the ethical and deontological aspects of counseling.

Assessment methods

The final exam consists of the presentation of a research project, based on the guidelines proposed by the instructors, in which the student must demonstrate:

 

  • ability to develop an intervention project within a school context;
  • the feasibility of the proposed project;
  • how and why the concepts, theories, and methodologies presented in the course are more or less effective in achieving the project's objectives;
  • the limitations and potential of the proposed project.

Teaching tools

Slides and videos will be used during lectures. The slides will be made available to students on the Virtual University web platform after completing a lecture topic.
