Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student will have acquired the essential knowledge regarding the issues, methodologies, and diagnostic significance of the biochemical parameters most relevant to the profession of Biomedical Laboratory Technician. The student will gain knowledge concerning appropriateness in laboratory medicine, precision medicine, and the various stages of the analytical process—including the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases—as well as an understanding of chemical, biological, and physical risks, and general concepts regarding laboratory tests and biomarkers.

Course contents

- General pre-analytical processes, with a specific focus on the Unified Laboratory of Pievesestina (Romagna Wide Area)

- Study of techniques: ECLIA, ELISA, photometry, nephelometry, turbidimetry, potentiometry

- Clinical significance of key analytes: tumor markers, lipid profile, electrolytes, drugs and pancreatic/hepatic/renal/thyroid function

- Quality control and adjustment in clinical biochemistry
