B8706 - Design and Curation of Musical Events (1) (LM)

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, students will develop skills in planning and managing musical events, with a particular focus on organizational aspects, communication, and promotion. The course covers the stages and processes involved in the conception, production, and distribution of musical events and their content, project management methodologies, technical aspects of event execution, communication strategies, and outcome evaluation.

Course contents

The course introduces the main processes involved in the design and curation of music events, with particular attention to the organisational, cultural, social, and communicative aspects of live music production. Through theoretical frameworks and practical examples, the main phases that make up a musical event will be analysed:

• ideation and curation of artistic content;
• ·organisational models and project management tools;
• cultural mediation and communication strategies;
• production and operational management;
• evaluation and analysis of socio-cultural impact.

Teaching methods

The course is held in person and consists of lectures, with analysis, discussion, and in-depth examination of the topics covered.

Assessment methods

Non-attending students

The exam consists of an oral interview, with questions relating to the exam syllabus.

Attending students

Students who have attended at least 75% of the lectures may agree with the instructor to carry out a project work, which will be assessed and discussed during the final exam. The paper, approximately 8–10 pages long (25,000–30,000 characters including spaces, A4 format, Times New Roman or similar font, size 12, 1.5 line spacing), must be submitted at least one week before the exam session in which the student intends to take the exam, exclusively in .doc or .docx format.

The evaluation takes into account knowledge of the content, the ability to critically argue and to draw connections between the different parts of the syllabus, and command of language (oral or written, depending on the type of exam). Solid, well-argued preparation will result in an excellent/very good grade; adequate but not particularly in-depth preparation will result in a good/fair grade; essential preparation, with some gaps, will result in a sufficient grade; poor preparation lacking orientation in the discipline will result in a failing grade.

The use of AI for the preparation of the project work is prohibited. Any use constitutes a violation of academic integrity.
