Learning outcomes
The course provides the knowledge basis of the processes for the production of energy vectors from renewable sources, as hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, biofuels, and e-fuels. Methods and tools for process analysis and for the assessment of the impacts in the production and use of energy vectors will also be introduced.
Course contents
Within the course, the main aspects of the technologies for the production of energy from renewable sources and waste treatment, as well as production and storage of relevant energy carriers, will be addressed, combining process modelling and sizing of the main equipment, following the topics reported below:
- Energy Transition: definitions and strategies
- Power production from renewable energy sources
- Production processes, storage and transportation systems of low and zero carbon energy carriers
- Classification of biomasses and waste products
- Anaerobic digestion
- Biomethanation
