Learning outcomes

At the end of the activity, the student will be able to demonstrate familiarity with professional techniques of presenting and discussing topics pertaining to the course of study. The ECTS will be awarded following written verification of achievement.

Course contents

The course develops the skills in writing, comprehension and document management required to work independently in academic and research contexts. It is structured around two modules that converge in joint peer-review workshops.

Track 1 — Writing for calls for proposals and research administration. Structure of scientific and technical texts in Italian; reading and interpreting ministerial and competitive calls for proposals (PRIN, PNRR, university calls, EU programmes), including eligibility criteria, administrative vocabulary and formatting requirements; guidance on the formalities of university public administration (forms, procedures, terminology, compliance requirements).

Track 2 — Academic writing, digital tools and the institutional context. Conventions of academic writing (structure, register, citation of sources); informed and transparent use of AI-based translation tools and writing assistants, including their potential, limitations and academic integrity; communication and academic etiquette (formal emails, managing roles); the structure of Italian universities and research centres and the most common procedures.

Joint activities. Collaborative writing and peer-review workshop; exercises based on real-life cases.

Readings/Bibliography

There is no compulsory textbook; the materials (presentations, templates, examples of calls for proposals and documents) are provided during the course via Virtuale.

Teaching methods

An experiential and collaborative approach: introductory lectures with analysis of examples; writing workshops; peer review and peer mentoring; project-based learning, anchored to a specific task in each module (a proposal in response to a real call for proposals; a dossier of academic documentation/communication); individual and group activities to be completed at home. The peer review workshops are common to both Tracks.

Assessment methods

Students are required to attend at least 75% of the teaching hours.

 

Succesful evaluation is assessed on the basis of the textwork produced, according to the criteria of completeness, accuracy and relevance of the written text.

Virtual platform and shared folder; presentations, scientific articles, examples of calls for proposals and authentic administrative documentation; worksheets, assessment rubrics and questionnaires; examples of university administration forms; digital tools for writing, translation and AI-assisted proofreading, presented from a critical perspective
