Learning outcomes

At the end of the course students: recognize constitutive elements of a «text» (coherence, cohesion, etc.); summarize and rewrite an argumentative text; organize ideas and informations with a concept map; use dictionaries (monolingual, synonyms); use readability testing tools.

Course contents

Course topics:

- coherence and cohesion,

- summeries and rewriting,

- techniques to collect and to organize the ideas,

- paragraph and «topic sentence»,

- using a dictionary,

- measuring text readability,

- use of lexicographic tools.

 

The Italian language laboratory will be divided into four groups and will take place according to the following calendar:

- Group 1: I period, I semester;
- Group 2: III period, II semester;
- Group 3: IV period, II semester;
- Group R: non attending students.

The detailed calendars of the individual groups are published on the professor’s page and on the platform.

1-3 groups: max 85 students admitted.

Students must register for the Laboratory and choose their group through the Virtual e-learning platform, using the "registration key" obtained by email (by sending a message without text (subject: chiave Laboratorio) to lettere.italab@unibo.it; the reply message will also contain the instructions for registration; only messages from the institutional address (name.surname@unibo.it) will receive an answer. This email address will be active as of September 10th, 2026.

Warning: Deadline for 2025/2026 laboratory registration is set to September 1 2027!

Attention: all registrations to the 2026/2027 Laboratory expire on 15 December 2027.

Students whose mother tongue is other than Italian must have a good knowledge of the Italian language, at least level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Erasmus or exchange students must contact the professor before the beginning of the course.

Lectures, individual exercises, workshops, in a computer lab.

Assessment methods

Attending students: To obtain their ‘idoneità’, students must complete the reading/text production pathway available on the Virtuale platform. A series of ongoing assessments will be administered during the course.

The minimum attendance required is eight lessons out of the fifteen scheduled.

Non-attending students: After completing the reading/text production pathway available on the Virtuale platform, students must take an in-person assessment. The assessment will be held in a computer lab and will consist of two parts: (1) a preliminary test (10 multiple-choice questions) and (2) one written exercise.

Only students who pass Part 1 of the assessment will be allowed to proceed to Part 2, which will take place immediately afterwards. To obtain a pass grade, students must receive a positive evaluation.

Students with SLD or temporary or permanent disabilities. It is necessary to contact the relevant University office (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en ) with ample time in advance: the office will propose some adjustments, which must in any case be submitted 15 days in advance to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of these in relation to the teaching objectives.
