Learning outcomes
The course examines the sociological dimensions of natural resource management in times of multiple environmental crises, exploring how “planetary limits,” scarcity, and ecological risks intersect with global inequalities and social conflict. By the end of the course, students will be familiar with environmental studies literature and be able to identify and understand some of the most acute shortages of natural resources, both current and projected, as well as their associated social challenged. Students will have gained knowledge of a variety of different property and ownership regimes, as well as a broad understanding of the trade-offs and synergies between developmental and environmental policies, as well as their impact on welfare and levels of inequality, both between and within countries
