By the end of this course students are able to: -discuss why financial intermediation exists and how it works - apply the basics of mathematical finance in the evaluation of financing contracts and financial instruments - assess the expected returns and risks in portfolios and investment decisions - the goals of monetary policy and how it works in practice - interpret and discuss the current issues on financial markets
