Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will have attained a good level of bibliographical, methodological and subject-specific competence necessary for writing their dissertation. Students will have gained a basic understanding that enables them to approach their chosen topic with the necessary knowledge.
Course contents
1. Bibliography: resources and collections, also in the digital context; the reference bibliography.
2. Bibliographic research: identifying and evaluating information resources (bibliographic repertories, catalogues, digital archives, encyclopedias, dictionaries, search engines, portals, databases, periodicals).
3. Bibliographic citation and reference work: using and citing the resources (citation styles, editorial rules).
4. Special bibliographic research for literary disciplines: sources in the Italian, European and international context, with particular reference to students' research fields.
5. Zotero: an easy-to-use tool to collect, organize, annotate, cite, and share bibliographic resources.

Teaching methods
Lectures and classroom-based practical sessions led by university lecturers and archivists and librarians from Italian and European institutions.
The programme also includes visits to the University’s libraries and to libraries in the city, where some of the practical sessions will take place.
Assessment methods
Students will be asked to write a bibliographic note.
The assessment will consider especially the knowledge of the course contents and the ability to use effectively the terminology associated with the subject.
