Learning outcomes

The integrated course “Accounting for Decision Making” aims to provide students with the knowledge and analytical tools necessary to interpret financial information and support managerial decision-making. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: - understand the principles and techniques of management accounting, including budgeting, reporting, and cost analysis; - apply cost accounting systems and methods (such as direct, full, and activity-based costing) to support planning and control processes; - perform cost–volume–profit and short-term decision analyses for managerial purposes; - analyze and interpret financial statements to evaluate an organization’s performance and financial position; - use financial ratios and profitability indicators to support strategic and operational decisions; - integrate cost and financial information to assess business performance and guide effective decision-making. The course equips students with an integrated understanding of accounting tools and techniques essential for evaluating corporate performance and supporting management control and decision processes.

a) The main concepts about cost analysis and cost classification

b) The use of cost information for supporting the decision making process

c) The cost accounting systems

 

Second part of the course

a) The management accounting process

b) Planning and setting targets 

c) The cost-volume-profit analysis

d) The Budgeting process

Assessment methods

Written exam on Esami online. 

Graduation grid of marks:

- 18-23: sufficient preparation and ability to analyze but relating to a limited number of topics covered in the course, use of an overall correct language;
- 24-27: technically adequate preparation but with some limits with respect to the topics covered, good operational skills, even if not particularly articulated, expressed in correct language;
- 28-30: very good knowledge of a large number of topics covered in the course, good operational and critical skills, high-level usage of specific terminology;
- 30L: excellent and very in-depth and exhaustive knowledge of the topics covered in the course, critical analysis and connection skills, very high-level usage of specific terminology.

With regard to the assessment of learning outcomes, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) during the written examination is strictly prohibited. Any use of AI constitutes a violation of academic integrity.
