Learning outcomes
To explore in greater depth and put into practice the topics covered in the Communication Technologies module, with particular emphasis on the design, configuration, and management of local and industrial networks.
Course contents
- Introduction to network virtualization techniques in Linux environments (Virtual Machines, Containers, Namespaces), which will provide the technological foundation for the laboratory activities;
- Routing in IP networks, use of routing tables, design and analysis of network architectures of increasing complexity, direct and indirect routing, and configuration of static routes;
- Intra-domain and inter-domain routing protocols: RIP, OSPF, and BGP. Design and configuration of networks using these protocols, and analysis of the evolution of routing tables;
- Network security issues. Examples of network attacks: ARP poisoning, route forging, and man-in-the-middle attacks;
- Application protocols for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), including MQTT and OPC UA. Design of networks in virtual environments and analysis of their operation, including publish/subscribe mechanisms, Quality of Service (QoS), etc. Cybersecurity in Industry 4.0.
