Academic Year 2026/2027

  • Teaching Mode: In-person learning (entirely or partially)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Primary Teacher Education (cod. 5711)

Learning outcomes

The workshop will help students to strengthen their understanding of autism and improve their skills and expertise when working with autistic students. More generally, they will be able to critically reflect   on the proposed topics in group discussion and to apply the covered thematic within a simulated learning environment.

Course contents

The first part of the workshop will explore the clinical manifestations of Autism Spectrum Disorders, with particular attention to the sensory, cognitive and relational characteristics of children with ASD and the psychoeducational methods that are considered most effective for their integration in the school environment. The second part of the workshop will consist in the presentation of a school integration project carried out in small groups, creating a virtual educational setting, effective teaching strategies and behavioral techniques fitting the characteristics of a hypothetical student with ASD.

Teaching methods

First meeting: Frontal lesson with experiential exchange on video presentation.

Second meeting: Interactive lesson with the students presenting to the class their in-depth project on school integration realized in small groups, that includes reading of articles on didactic and psychoeducational interventions.

Assessment methods

Student assessment will be based on the level of active participation and commitment demonstrated throughout the laboratory sessions. In addition, students will be required to work in small groups to prepare an assignment on the application of a psychoeducational intervention, described in a scientific article, to a clinical case. The assignment will be presented and discussed in class.

The possible outcomes are as follows:

  • Fail (the laboratory must be repeated in the following academic year);
  • –1 point deducted from the final course examination grade (marked on a 30-point scale);
  • 0 points, with no adjustment to the final course examination grade (marked on a 30-point scale);
  • +1 point added to the final course examination grade (marked on a 30-point scale).
