B1969 - Foundations of Mechanics of Machines P

Academic Year 2026/2027

  • Teaching Mode: In-person learning (entirely or partially)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Polymeric Composite (cod. 5941)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students will have acquired the theoretical foundations for the analytical and graphical treatment of the kinematic, static, and dynamic problems of constrained rigid-body systems. In particular, students will:

  1. Understand the fundamental quantities of mechanics, mechanical constraints, and the energy aspects associated with contact between bodies.
  2. Be able to formulate kinematic and dynamic mathematical models of planar mechanisms.
  3. Understand the fundamentals of selected machine dynamics topics, including balancing and vibrations.

    Teaching methods

The course is based on lectures covering the theoretical aspects of the topics included in the syllabus.

Practical examples will be presented during in-class exercise sessions to illustrate the application of the theoretical concepts.

Although attendance is not compulsory, regular participation in lectures is strongly recommended, as it plays a key role in the learning process.

    Assessment methods

The examination consists of solving a number of problems and answering theoretical questions designed to assess the knowledge and understanding of the topics covered in the course.

The examination is written and covers the entire course syllabus.

The derivations, models, and calculations presented during the lectures are an integral part of the course content and may be included in the examination.

    Teaching tools

During the course, presentation slides will be used to support the theoretical topics covered in the lectures.
