Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will:
- have in-depth knowledge of the methodological approaches and tools of empirical and experimental research in educational and training contexts;
- be able to outline the different phases of a project in educational/training contexts;
- know and apply monitoring tools and methodologies within education and training interventions;
- be able to analyse and evaluate the processes and outcomes of training projects through appropriate methodologies and procedures;
- be able to analyse monitoring data and evaluative research findings in order to develop hypotheses for the planning and improvement of training interventions;
- be able to document, through appropriate presentations, research data processed in relation to predefined issues and hypotheses;
- know and use tools for collecting and evaluating qualitative and quantitative information on the education and training system.
Course contents
The course aims to provide students with knowledge of:
- research models and perspectives in educational and training research;
- theories and methods for planning and evaluation in educational contexts, including the phases of planning an educational/training intervention and programming strategies;
- the definition of aims and objectives within a project;
- the identification of the most appropriate strategies and methodologies to achieve the stated objectives;
- the monitoring and evaluation of an educational project.

Teaching methods
The course includes the active involvement of students. In particular, lectures will alternate with guided discussions, individual and small-group exercises, case analysis and practical simulations.
During the course, practical activities will be proposed to apply concepts and tools related to the different phases of planning, monitoring and evaluating educational/training interventions, with particular attention to the professional contexts of healthcare prevention.
The in-class exercises will have a formative function and will support the consolidation of learning. They will not directly contribute to the final assessment, but will be aimed at fostering the applied understanding of the course contents and at preparing students for the final exam.
Assessment methods
The final assessment will consist of an individual written exam, graded on a scale of 30.
The exam will include open-ended questions, also based on situations, cases or applied examples consistent with the topics addressed during the course. Students will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of the theoretical and methodological elements of planning, monitoring and evaluation in educational/training contexts, and to show that they are able to use this knowledge to analyse, interpret and design educational/training interventions.
In particular, the exam will assess:
- knowledge of the main models, concepts and tools of planning and evaluation;
- the ability to rework, compare and synthesize the contents of the exam readings;
- the ability to apply the acquired knowledge to the analysis of cases, problems or project-related situations;
- the ability to identify aims, objectives, strategies, actions, monitoring tools and evaluation criteria that are consistent with an educational/training intervention.
Assessment will take into account the accuracy and completeness of the contents, the ability to connect theory and practice, the relevance of the arguments, clarity of expression, and the appropriate use of scientific and methodological terminology.
Students with learning disabilities and temporary or permanent disabilities are invited to contact the dedicated office (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en/for-students ) as soon as possible in order to agree on appropriate compensatory measures. The request must be submitted in advance, at least 15 days before the exam date, to the lecturer, who will assess the suitability of the measures in relation to the learning outcomes.
Teaching tools
During the lectures, the following teaching tools will be used:
- PowerPoint presentations;
- exercises related to the topics addressed during the course;
- documents, videos and scientific articles shared with students;
- practical tools for the application of the concepts discussed in class.
