Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student has the knowledge and the ability to understand the general principles of manual therapy. He develops the ability to perform a thorough assessment, design a treatment, and perform the necessary manual therapy techniques.

Course contents

Given the nature of the activities and teaching methods adopted, attendance in this educational activity requires all students to complete the specific health and safety training modules related to study, work, and clinical placement environments, delivered both online and in person.

The course syllabus is developed collaboratively and through ongoing consultation with the other lecturers of the Integrated Course, with the aim of avoiding overlap and repetition of content.

Teaching methods

Teaching methods of face-to-face lessons:

Passive and active didactic approaches will be alternated (Lectures, Practical Exercises, Problem Solving, Problem based learning, Simulations, Role playing, Clinical cases, Brainstorming, group work). Clinical cases.

All lessons will be held face to face, unless otherwise indicated by the Degree Council.

Given the nature of the activities and teaching methods adopted, attendance in this educational activity requires completion of Modules 1 and 2 in e-learning mode and participation in Module 3 of the specific training programme on health and safety in study environments. Information regarding the dates and attendance arrangements for Module 3 can be found in the dedicated section of the Degree Programme website.

Assessment methods

The examination is practical.

It consists of the performance of three practical techniques.

Assessment criteria and grading scale:

The purpose of the practical examination is to assess the student's ability to apply the knowledge acquired and to perform the necessary logical and deductive reasoning in practice.

Final grade scale:

For each of the three tasks, the instructor will assign a score out of 30 points (based on the student's positioning, patient positioning, hand placement, and application of forces), allowing the achievement of the maximum score of 30 cum laude.

The final score will be based on the average of the scores obtained in the individual tasks.

Preparation covering a very limited number of topics addressed during the course, with analytical ability emerging only with the instructor's guidance, and overall correct use of language → 18–19;

Preparation covering a limited number of topics addressed during the course, with autonomous analytical ability only on purely procedural issues, and correct use of language → 20–24;

Preparation covering a broad range of topics addressed during the course, ability to make autonomous choices in critical analysis, and mastery of specific terminology → 25–29;

Substantially comprehensive preparation on the topics addressed during the course, ability to make autonomous choices in critical analysis and integration of concepts, full mastery of specific terminology, and strong argumentation and self-reflection skills → 30–30 cum laude.

The instructor may decide to increase the number of tasks administered in order to improve the accuracy of the assessment.

The grade is entered into AlmaEsami on the same day, allowing the Integrated Course Coordinator to proceed with the official registration of grades once all required assessments have been completed.

The contribution of this course assessment to the final grade of the Integrated Course is determined by the Integrated Course Coordinator.

The Office will propose any necessary accommodations for eligible students. Such accommodations must be submitted to the instructor for approval at least 15 days in advance.
