At the end of the course the student: - possesses the knowledge to understand the fundamental structure of the Internet as a packet-switched network and the main services offered by the World Wide Web such as e-mail, instant messaging, remote connections, the evolution of social network services o Web2, the processes of searching for information on the Web; - will also have basic knowledge on the use of spreadsheets (operations, functions, graphics), and database management (construction of tables, relations, forms, and queries).

Course contents

The lab explores methods and tools for Media Education in early childhood education. Starting from a broader reflection on media and childhood, participants will analyse and experiment with digital tools for storytelling, with a particular focus on visual and audiovisual languages.

The teacher will present educational activities that bring children’s literature, photography, audiovisual media and storytelling apps into dialogue. To this end, participants will work with picturebooks, animated films and digital applications, in order to understand their quality criteria, educational potential and possible uses in early childhood education.

The workshop will also examine how these tools can be integrated into different aspects of educational practice, from activities with children to the relationship with families, within the framework of an educational alliance.

Readings/Bibliography

Texts and materials related to the topics covered will be provided at the beginning of the workshop, in a dedicated bibliography available on Virtuale.

Teaching methods

The sessions will be interactive and hands-on. Participants will be encouraged to carry out exercises individually and/or in small groups during class.

In consideration of the type of activity and the teaching methods adopted, the attendance of this training activity requires the prior participation of all students in the training modules 1 and 2 on safety in the study places [https://elearning-sicurezza.unibo.it/], in e-learning mode.

Assessment methods

At the end of the lab, students will be invited to present a Digital Storytelling project designed for childcare services.

Please note that each 3-CFU lab includes 24 hours of in-class activities (8 hours per CFU) and 51 hours of individual study (for a total of 75 hours). Therefore, attending the lab sessions alone is not sufficient to obtain the final assessment; all required assignments must also be completed.

The final evaluation will be expressed as “eligible” or “not eligible.” To obtain eligibility, students must attend the sessions in person, actively participate in the proposed activities, and submit all required assignments by the given deadlines.
