Learning outcomes

the student possesses knowledge regarding the characteristics and parameters of the voice and the characteristics of the vocal tract, from both anatomical and functional perspectives.

Course contents

Concepts of euphony and dysphonia Physiology of vocal registers: mechanisms 0, 1, 2, and 3 Physiology of the vocal tract Vocal projection and carrying power Posture and voice Management of costodiaphragmatic breathing: *appoggio* (breath management) and *sostegno* (breath support) Vowel formants and the singer's formant Classification of dysphonias Congenital dysphonias: Cri du chat syndrome, laryngomalacia, congenital glottic web, juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis, sulcus and *vergeture*, epidermoid cysts Acquired dysphonias (Organic): edema, laryngeal inflammation, nodules, polyps, retention cysts, laryngocele, submucosal hemorrhage, laryngeal paralysis, oncological pathology Acquired dysphonias (Functional): voice mutation disorders, psychogenic dysphonia, dysodia, chronic childhood dysphonia, hyperkinetic and hypokinetic dysphonia Instrumental assessment of voice disorders: fiber-optic laryngoscopy, laryngeal stroboscopy, spectrography and sonography, electroacoustic voice analyzers (vocaligraphy, MDVP, Lingwaves), manual and automatic phonetograph
