Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be equipped to recognize, describe, and potentially prevent the most common types of implant-related risks. Specifically, students will be able to: recognize the clinical and radiographic signs of implant-related biological risks; recognize the clinical and radiographic signs of implant-related biomechanical risks; detect and appropriately report potential signs of risk to the appropriate authorities; actively prevent the development of potential implant-related problems; educate and encourage patients to actively participate in risk prevention.

Course contents

The teaching aims to train the student on the possible complications related to implant therapy. The topic will be developed in its many aspects, ranging from the most immediate consequences of the operative act to possible pathologies or complications related to implant rehabilitation. Due attention will be paid to the hygienic-preventive aspects and to the monitoring of implant rehabilitation.

Teaching methods

Teaching activities will be delivered through interactive lectures supported by audiovisual resources, clinical simulations, and classroom discussions.

Collaborative learning activities will also be incorporated through small-group work aimed at developing clinical reasoning and critical appraisal skills according to the principles of peer instruction. These activities are designed to promote active learning and the progressive integration of theoretical knowledge, scientific evidence, and clinical decision-making.

Practical sessions will also be held in the clinical simulation laboratory ("Simulation Lab"), allowing students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a simulated clinical environment.

Due to the nature of the practical activities and teaching methods adopted, attendance at the laboratory sessions requires the completion of Modules 1 and 2 of the University's online health and safety training, as well as participation in Module 3, which provides specific training on health and safety in study environments. Assessment methods

Student learning will be assessed through a final oral examination designed to evaluate the student's acquisition of theoretical knowledge, ability to apply it critically, and clinical reasoning skills.

During the examination, students may be asked to discuss clinical cases and interpret clinical images, radiographic examinations, or other diagnostic documentation. They may also be required to produce simple freehand schematic drawings of anatomical structures or clinically relevant concepts in order to demonstrate their understanding of the topics covered.

The final grade will be expressed on a 30-point scale.
