Learning outcomes

The student will know the theoretical aspects, the instrumental techniques and the methods to make a compositional analysis of chemical systems from the biological and anthropological sources in the environment.

Course contents

Main thermodynamic principles and kinetics chemistry aspects;

Sampling and analysis methods of pollutants;

Chemistry and microbiology of the water;

Microplastics in water;

PFAS: what are they, why are they dangerous, and where are they present;

Main aspects of physical-chemistry of the atmosphere;

Primary and secondary air pollutants: NOx, O3, CO, SO2, PM10, PM2.5, VOC;

Indoor vs Outdoor air pollution;

Climate system overview;

Global warming and Energy balance;

Models for the simulation of air quality;

Current state of legislation for environmental protection;

The course is organized with frontal lessons.

Assessment methods

the final test (exam) is done to evaluate the understanding of the whole course content.

The exam will be a written multiple-choice test in person.
