14041 - Biochemistry Lab-based Course (AK b)

Academic Year 2025/2026

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Medicine and Surgery (cod. 6733)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the Laboratory of Biochemistry module the student acquires methodological and applicative elements useful for integrating the knowledge achieved by attending the Biochemistry course (I.C.).

Course contents

This course is part of the Integrated Biochemistry Course. Upon completion of the Integrated Biochemistry Course, students will acquire the essential molecular knowledge needed to study human physiology and pathology.

SPECIFIC COURSE CONTENT:

The theoretical-practical biochemistry laboratories are carried out using dedicated computers and software.

1. Through interactive graphic representations of the 3D structure of protein macromolecules, the first semester laboratories allow the student to engage in important reasoning to understand the structural organization of proteins and the relationship between structure and function.

2. In the second semester the use of interactive software allows students to delve deeper into the molecular reasons for pathological states caused by alterations in cellular biosignaling processes. In conclusion, the laboratory activity of the second semester favors and completes the students' acquisition of knowledge of metabolic biochemistry relevant for the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis and aspects of clinical diagnostics.

Teaching methods

Given the type of activity and teaching methods adopted, attendance at this training activity requires all students to first participate in modules 1 and 2 of the e-learning course on workplace safety [https://elearning-sicurezza.unibo.it/].

Assessment methods

The biochemical laboratory activity of Medicine and Surgery students (Channel A) contributes to achieving the educational objectives of the Integrated Course of Biochemistry (I.C). The students' learning level is then verified through the written test in General Biochemistry and the oral interview in Biochemistry that the students must take and pass.
