Learning outcomes

The course aims to: - teach how to recognize inequalities in cardiovascular health in order to combat them. Data on disparities in effective cardiovascular treatment (inequities) will be highlighted in different patient groups, alongside circumstances where there is a lack of data on effectiveness in certain patients (false inequities); - provide an in-depth analysis of the categories of patients with the highest cardiovascular mortality rates and provide knowledge to improve the cardiovascular health of these patients; - promote equity in cardiovascular research and care, outlining the gaps in knowledge that need to be filled in order to improve health outcomes.

Course contents

Approach to the study of cardiovascular health disparities: conceptual and methodological foundations of the study of disparities.

Analysis of cardiovascular disparities around the world: with particular attention to differences in treatment based on sex and gender, age, ethnicity, and psychosocial aspects, and a focus on the analyses of The Lancet's European Regional Commission on Health on inequalities and disparities in cardiovascular health.

In-depth analysis of the intersectional aspect of disparities and the multiplier effects of inequalities.

Illustration of the role of evidence-based medicine in resolving disparities: how research can lead to change, from clinical practice to the impact on guidelines and health policies.
