Learning outcomes
He/she knows the main pathways of cellular metabolism (catabolism and anabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins) that are the basis of physiopathological processes. He also knows the basics of the mechanisms of response to extracellular signals. Finally, he is able to appreciate the complexity of the regulation of metabolic pathways
Course contents
This course is part of the Integrated Course "The cell and its functions". At the end of the integrated course “The Cell and Its Functions”, the student knows cellular and tissue structure as well as the principles of general embryology, understands cellular functions, homeostatic and communication mechanisms, and is familiar with the main metabolic pathways. The student is able to identify and describe different tissue types under the microscope.
The Integrated Course contributes to the achievement of the following ESEVT Day One Competences: 1.15, 1.18, 1.29 and 1.30.

Assessment methods
The designated course contact for this course is Prof. Cristiano Bombardi.
Students can register for exams through the AlmaEsami platform (http://almaesami.unibo.it/ ). Exams are scheduled during the designated periods in the academic calendar. Additional sessions are available for students beyond the standard program duration.
Students with learning disorders and/or temporary or permanent disabilities: please, contact the office responsible (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en/for-students ) as soon as possible so that they can propose acceptable adjustments. The request for adaptation must be submitted in advance (15 days before the exam date) to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of the adjustments, taking into account the teaching objectives.
Exam format: Assessment for the course "Metabolismo cellulare" will be conducted exclusively in written form, together with the other courses included in the Integrated Course (I.C.) “La Cellula e le sue funzioni”.The time allowed for the written exam of the Integrated Course “La Cellula e le sue funzioni” is 120 minutes. The Integrated Course exam is considered passed when at least the minimum required score is achieved in the evaluation of each individual course. Consequently, the exam is passed with a minimum score of 64/105, and the final grade is expressed on a 30-point scale. The exam is passed with a minimum grade of 18/30. In the case of a maximum grade (30/30), honors (lode) may be awarded to students who demonstrate excellent knowledge of the subject in the open-ended answers and in the oral exam.
If the evaluations of one or more courses are insufficient, the entire Integrated Course exam must be retaken.
The written exam section for the course Metabolismo Cellulare” consists of:
- 3 open-ended questions worth 2.5 points each (maximum 7.5 points)
- 1 fill-in-the-blank question worth up to 2.5 points (0.5 points per correct entry, 5 entries)
- 22 multiple-choice questions worth 1 point each (maximum 22 points)
The minimum score required to pass the exam is 18/30 and can be achieved as follows:
- At least 5 points from the open-ended questions
- At least 13 points from the multiple-choice/fill-in-the-blank questions
