Learning outcomes

At the end of the laboratory module, the student possesses the skills necessary to perform the basic procedures within the scope of a dental hygienist. Specifically, the student is able to:

Position themselves on the stool and maintain proper working posture to avoid fatigue and harmful compensatory positions, thereby reducing the risk of occupational diseases.

Properly position the patient’s body and head depending on the area of the mouth to be treated, in order to enhance the effectiveness of the procedure and improve the patient's comfort.

Use equipment in the safest, most comfortable, and most effective way to reduce the risk of injury and improve the quality of the work.

Identify and use the main instruments within the dental hygienist's scope, including those related to maintenance and sharpening.

Identify and use the main tools for home oral hygiene.

Course contents

  • Periodontal charting with practical exercises on the use of the periodontal probe

  • Filling out the medical record

  • Correct positioning of both patient and operator during periodontal therapy

  • Description of the main periodontal instruments with practical exercises on models

  • Sharpening of the described periodontal instruments
