Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is able to:
- know the social, economic and regulatory context underlying prevention activities in the environment and in the workplace;
- know the company prevention system in terms of health and safety at work;
- know the principles of prevention in terms of health and safety at work;
- know the physical and chemical risks present in the workplace and the related assessment techniques;
- know the prevention and protection measures, organizational and procedural techniques.
Course contents
General objectives
- Know the social, economic and regulatory context underlying prevention activities in the environment and in the workplace.
- Know the legislative framework of reference in the field of health and safety at work and the subjects with roles and responsibilities.
- Know the main prevention strategies and techniques in the environment and in the workplace currently adopted or to be adopted and their evolution compared to the past.
- Know the reference regulations and the techniques of measurement, sampling and evaluation of physical and chemical risks present in the workplace.
Teaching program
- Sources of legislation on occupational health and safety, regulatory developments, and the general legislative framework (Legislative Decree 81/08).
- Principles of workplace prevention: concepts of health, danger/risk, damage (workplace accidents and occupational diseases), definition of prevention and protection measures.
- Organization of the corporate prevention system: the role of corporate safety personnel (DL, RSPP, RLS, MC, etc.), obligations, tasks, responsibilities, and the system of relationships and communication.
- From risk assessment to the preparation of company information, education, and training plans.
- Techniques and methodologies for proper information, education, and training in occupational health and safety.
- Effective communication methods and techniques. Methods for managing the annual periodic meeting.
- Classification of risks present in the workplace (health risks, safety risks, cross-functional risks).
- Prevention and protection measures that can be adopted in the workplace: collective (technical, procedural, organizational, hygiene/health) and individual protection.
- Noise in the workplace: physical parameters, relevant regulations, measurement and protection tools and techniques.
- Mechanical vibrations in the workplace: physical parameters, relevant regulations, measurement and protection tools and techniques.
- Microclimate in the workplace: physical parameters and main microclimatic indicators, relevant regulations, measurement and protection tools and techniques.
- Chemical risk in the workplace: classification and labeling of hazardous substances; relevant regulations, risk assessment, and the main sampling tools and techniques for airborne chemicals (dust and gases) in the workplace.

Frontal lessons
Assessment methods
1) Written test for admission to the oral exam with multiple choice questions on the topics covered in class. The test consists of 40 questions (4 answers) and passing the test is considered valid with 30 correct answers. Passing the test allows the student to be admitted to the subsequent oral exams defined by the teacher. The test does not provide for the assignment of a score for the final evaluation.
2) The oral exam, which will define the final grade, will focus on some questions on the topics covered in class with particular attention to the principles of prevention in the workplace, the relevant legislation and the company organization in terms of health and safety at work and the techniques of measurement, sampling, prevention and protection of risks in the workplace.
