Learning outcomes

The course "Classics in the History of Philosophy" intends to provide students with the opportunity to practice reading classics of philosophy in the original language (English, French, German) in order to deepen on them the semantic and conceptual questions connected with the historical transformations of the philosophical expression, to favor the comprehension of the peculiar meanings of the specialized language in the diachrony of its forms and to acquire the critical awareness of the theoretical and interpretative problems connected with the translation of complex texts.

Course contents

Critique of Judgment: reading and analysis of the text.

The course aims to provide a deep reading of the Critique of Judgment. The main focus will be on
exploring the meaning and role of this part of the third Critique within the Kantian system. For this reason, reading the Introduction and Preface to this book will be of central importance. Through the analysis of the four moments in which the expression of taste judgment, Deduction, and Dialectic are structured, the systematic connections with the critical project in general will be highlighted, as well as the moments of tension that run through the work. The course will be based primarily on reading and commenting on Kant's text. Students will become familiar with Kantian terminology, the fundamental concepts of critical philosophy, and relevant issues in both epistemology and aesthetics.
