Learning outcomes

This is an optional introductory course in statistics for newly-admitted LMEPP students whose statistics background is not strong enough for the LM level. Upon admission, the admissions committee may recommend students to take this course. At the end of the course, students master the minimal statistics background that is needed to succeed in the more advanced statistics and econometrics courses offered at LMEPP.

  • Probability and random variables
  • Basics of inferential statistics
  • Estimation and hypothesis testing
  • Linear regression model

For LMAEM students: the topics covered in this course serve as prerequisites for subsequent degree courses, where they will be assumed as known.

Lectures held both in person and online.

Assessment methods

The course does not involve a final examination. To successfully complete the course, students must attend a minimum of 70% of the scheduled lectures.
