B1968 - Foundations of Physics P

Academic Year 2025/2026

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Polymeric Composite (cod. 5941)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the semester, the student is familiar with the main topics of the so-called Classical Physics: Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Optics. All the topics will be discussed in the broader framework of the Major.

Students will also develop a method to autonomously tackle problems and exercises

Readings/Bibliography

The slides and additional material used in class will be made available on the online repository https://virtuale.unibo.it/. During the course of the semester, the professor will also suggest books, articles and additional material to support the individual learning process.

Teaching methods

Oral lectures.

During the lectures, the professor will show and solve examples of exercises. Further exercises will also be assigned to the students to be solved at home.

Assessment methods

The final grade will be assigned following a written exam that will include a set of theoretical questions (both multiple-choice and open answer) and a few problems and exercises.

The student will have to answer ten questions: each question correctly answered will assign 3 points. Each wrong question, as well as each unanswered question, will assign 0 points. Finally, questions partially answered, or containing minor mistakes (e.g., computational errors), will assign 1/2 points. The maximum grade (30 e lode) will be assigned to students correctly answering all ten questions, while at the same time addressing the open-answer questions with a great amount of detail and with evidence of independent thought.

During the exam, students can use a self-made cheat sheet containing formulas learned during the lessons; the use of the slides provided by the professor, or other personal notes, is instead forbidden.

Teaching tools

Lessons will be taught using slides that will be made available on the online platform https://virtuale.unibo.it/. A regular blackboard will also be used, as well as multi-medial material.

Additional tools can be provided to students with disabilities, via a request through DSA.
