Learning outcomes

At the end of the laboratory the student is able to independently conduct an experiment in the field of experimental linguistics, in its various phases. Can organize and collect complex information in a coherent form and can apply critical analysis methodologies on linguistic phenomena also using statistical and computational tools.

Course contents

The course addresses the most relevant aspects of empirical linguistic analysis. The main corpora for the study of Italian and several tools that can be used for consulting and annotating linguistic data are presented. Part of the course is dedicated to a linguistic phenomenon, its theoretical framework, the discussion of parameterization strategies, and, subsequently, guided annotation.

Students with specific learning disorders (SLD) or temporary or permanent disabilities are advised to contact the University Office in charge (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en) and the professors as soon as possible, to jointly identify the most effective strategies for attending classes and/or preparing for the exam.

Assessment methods

Attendance and participation in the laboratory activities will be considered in the final evaluation. Furthermore, the exercises completed during the laboratory sessions will be evaluated.
The course will be passed by actively participating in classes and submitting the required materials, prepared under the professors’ supervision.
Registration for the exam through the Almaesami system is mandatory.
