Learning outcomes

Through laboratory activities selected from those offered each year, students develop transversal skills in the practical application of knowledge acquired in the coursework. They are able to gather, organize, and analyze complex information, as well as present the results of their analysis in written and oral form.

Course contents

The workshop will analyze episodes related to conflict and political extremism through art and literature and through their portrayal in cultural media such as films and documentaries. It will examine the social and cultural dimensions that have produced phenomena such as the strategy of tension, the construction of the extremist personality, counterterrorism measures, the resurgence of extremism in Europe, and the threat posed by international terrorism from a sociological perspective through literature, journalism, and literary and cinematic representation.

Teaching methods

Lessons and exercises. Analysis of articles from the international press.

Assessment methods

Oral presentation of a short written essay (submitted at least five days before the exam session) on a topic of the candidate's choice, starting from one of the five research questions and corresponding bibliography.

Teaching tools

Presentation and reading of data and information from new papers and reviews related to the phenomenon.
