Learning outcomes

The seminar aims to provide theoretical, but above all practical, elements of professional ethics, a fundamental aspect of the future professional work of the students attending the degree course.

Course contents

All professions imply due respect of codes of conduct, called deontological codes, inspired by identical fundamental principles, and then declined into specific contents, depending on the features of the individual activities.

During the seminar, students will be provided for independent training with materials and slides about general framework of the ethical subject, fundamental principles that all professional codes are inspired by, steps of the disciplinary procedure and its sanctionary system; then, in the classroom, specific topics of considerable sensitivity will be analyzed, also with the intervention of experts and practitioners of the sector, such as professional confidentiality and the duty of confidentiality, the practice of the profession, illegality, duties towards clients and colleagues, the impact of new technologies in today's ethics.

Teaching methods

The seminar will feature practical content: after a general framing of the individual topics, in-depth studies are also planned through where possible the analysis of judicial decisionsand, and real cases. Active participation by attending students is welcome.

The course will consist of 5 meetings of two hours each, in which - based on the notion of deontology and its relationships with professional responsibility, disciplinary procedures, the fundamental principles of the code of ethics - they will be explored in depth relations with colleagues and clients, conditions of legitimate practice of the profession, duty of confidentiality.

Classes are held in-person, according to University guidelines.

Class attendance is strongly recommended. Working students are invited to agree an alternative method of attendance with the teacher.

Assessment methods

The final evaluation will consist of a pass/fail judgment.

Students attending at least 80% of the lessons (attendance will be verified in class) will take a short informal interview to complete the attendance, while those who do not reach this threshold will be assigned a written paper to be completed in class in person.

Students with learning disorders and/or temporary or permanent disabilities: please contact the office responsible (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en/for-students ) as soon as possible so that they can propose acceptable adjustments. The request for adaptation must be submitted in advance (15 days before the exam date) to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of the adjustments, taking into account the teaching objectives.
