88400 - Teaching Theories and Techniques of Preventive and Compensative Motor Education

Academic Year 2025/2026

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Physiotherapy (cod. 8476)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student possesses the knowledge referable to the methodological, didactic and organizational aspects that characterize the areas of education, prevention and compensation in the changing phases of age

Course contents

General Objective

Ensure consistency between the topics covered and the educational goals outlined in the "knowledge and skills to be acquired" framework, providing a clear, practical, and applicable learning experience, especially in the context of functional recovery and physical activity.

Content Organization by Topics

Introduction to the Concept of Prevention and Compensation
Understanding the role of physical activity in injury prevention and in maintaining functionality.

Prevention: Definition and Classification of Preventive Interventions
Primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.

Motor Skills
Conditional and coordinative abilities.

Strength, endurance, speed, joint mobility
Development methodologies and assessment tests.
Balance, rhythm, differentiation, reaction, transformation
Applications in rehabilitation and functional recovery protocols.

The Role of Exercise Dosage
Key parameters: intensity, duration, frequency, volume.
Load adaptation based on individual conditions.
Goal: to plan motor interventions in a safe and effective way, especially for individuals undergoing recovery or adaptation.

Motor and Sports Techniques
Technical learning and didactic progression.
Strategies for improving execution quality.
Adaptations based on age, abilities, and physical conditions.

Physical Exercise Evaluation Methodologies
Measurement of functional and motor parameters.
Tools and testing protocols (motor test batteries, postural assessments, performance tests).
Goal: to monitor the effects of exercise and personalize the intervention.

Assessment methods

The program delivered is part of an Integrated Course and is evaluated on a pass/fail (idoneità) basis. A successful outcome in the assessment certifies the achievement of the specific learning objectives of the module and constitutes a mandatory requirement for the overall completion of the Integrated Course, in accordance with the academic regulations of the Degree Program.

Assessment Methods – Mandatory Attendance

To access the assessment, attendance is mandatory, as established by the Degree Program. Attendance is considered an integral part of the educational process, as it promotes the gradual and informed acquisition of the knowledge and skills that will be assessed.

Structure of the Examination – Type

The assessment consists of a written exam, aimed at verifying the achievement of the basic learning objectives of the course. The result is expressed as pass/fail (idoneità); no numerical grade is assigned.

Exam Format

The written exam consists of 30 questions, divided as follows:

  • Multiple-choice questions

  • Open-ended questions

Duration: maximum 40 minutes

The exam is designed to assess the student’s acquisition of the fundamental knowledge related to the subject, as outlined in the course objectives.

Permitted Materials

The use of any supplementary tools (calculators, dictionaries, codes, electronic devices, notes) is not allowed during the exam.

Evaluation Criteria

The outcome of the exam will be:

  • Pass (Idoneità): if the candidate demonstrates sufficient and coherent understanding of the required topics, and the ability to correctly apply the fundamental concepts.

  • Fail (Non-idoneità): in the case of significant gaps, conceptual errors, or failure to understand essential aspects of the subject.

Assessment is based on explicit and transparent criteria, directly linked to the stated learning objectives. The main evaluation elements include:

  • Accuracy and completeness of responses

  • Appropriate use of disciplinary terminology

  • Ability to synthesize and apply knowledge

These elements are clearly communicated to students at the beginning of the course, supporting a process of conscious self-evaluation.

Access and Conditions for Taking the Exam

The exam is open only to students regularly enrolled within the deadlines established by the Degree Program.

Students must present a valid identification document, preferably their university ID card.

Conduct During the Exam

Students are required to:

  • Follow the established rules

  • Refrain from cheating or communicating with other candidates

Any attempt at fraud will result in the immediate cancellation of the exam.

Access to Oral Exam (if applicable)

In the event of two consecutive failures, the student may request a supplementary oral exam.

Refusing a passing grade on the written exam does not grant access to the oral examination.

Example of Multiple-Choice Question

Which of the following strategies represents an appropriate applied method to promote motor learning in a beginner?

A. Repeating the technical gesture intensively without breaks until it is consolidated
B. Introducing variability in the motor task and providing frequent, specific feedback
C. Correcting every small error in real-time to avoid incorrect automatisms
D. Teaching complex and combined movements simultaneously from the very first lessons

Correct answer: B
