Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student. - is able to conduct a field research in order to investigate social characteristics and needs in view of a specific intervention - is able to describe the social characteristics of administrative areas (regions, provinces, municipalities) using official statistical sources.
Course contents
Introduction to statistics, population and sample, variability.
Types of variables, data collection and management.
Descriptive statistic. Frequency distributions.
Position indexes.
Variation indexes.
Data representations with tables and graphs.
Two-way tables; the diagnostic test (sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV).
Measures of association (correlation, linear regression).
Probability, probability distributions, statistical inference, hypothesis testing, confidence interval.
Experimental and observational clinical studies.
Epidemiologic indicators: incidence, prevalence, risk

Assessment methods
Written test with 16 close questions and 4 response options, of which one only is correct. There are no penalties for wrong or incomplete answers. Every correct answer is worth two points.
