Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will understand: - The concept of dual diagnosis and comorbidity; - Severe personality disorders (relational approach and assessment); Psychiatric disorders and addictions; - Defense mechanisms in borderline personality disorder; - Drug and alcohol abuse and addiction associated with mental health issues; - Pathological gambling and psychiatric symptoms. - Regional guidelines for DGPs. Specifically, students will be able to: - Apply educational and rehabilitative techniques to patients with dual diagnosis.
Course contents
By the end of the course, students will have a good understanding of the main aspects of dual diagnosis, i.e., the simultaneous presence of a psychiatric disorder and an addiction.
The following topics will be covered:
The meaning of dual diagnosis and comorbidity, and their implications for patient care.
Severe personality disorders, with particular attention to the relational approach and assessment tools.
The link between psychiatric disorders and addictions, such as drug or alcohol use.
The most common defense mechanisms in individuals with borderline personality disorder.
The mental health issues often associated with substance abuse or other forms of addiction, such as pathological gambling.
An overview of regional guidelines regarding severe personality disorders (PGD).
By the end of the course, students will be able to: Use educational and rehabilitative techniques for individuals with dual diagnosis, tailoring the intervention to the patient's specific needs.
