Learning outcomes
At the end of the seminar, the student knows and understands some relevant aspects of the evolution of fashion and the change in aesthetic canons since the 16th century.
Course contents
The seminar aims to expose students to the methods and tools of the history of clothing from the Renaissance onwards through a selection of paintings, engravings and photographs that are significant to the change in taste.
After three introductory lectures on the history of fashion and its research methods, the students will be divided into groups that will be assigned (or will choose) a work of art among those proposed by the professor
Each week each group will have to work on reading the work (reading the image, bibliographic research, analysis and comprehension of a text provided by the professor) and at the end present the results in the classroom with a Powerpoint, discussing them with colleagues. It goes without saying that attendance is essential for eligibility.
Readings/Bibliography
The bibliography, provided by the professor, will be presented during the seminar.
Teaching methods
In view of the practical and laboratory nature of the seminar, frontal teaching will be kept to a minimum, favouring common activities of conception, iconographic and bibliographic research.
The participants will be asked to prepare a Powerpoint, which will be commented on collectively.
Assessment methods
It will be necessary to attend at least 24 of the 30 seminar hours; however, a classroom presentation of the Powerpoints prepared by the students is planned towards the end of the seminar.
Teaching tools
Pdf of lectures; bibliography provided by the professor.
