Learning outcomes
At the end of the course:
Students will know the clinical-care best practices for deaf children and people.
Students will be able to choose and apply evaluation tools, define and plan treatment goals, measure clinical outcomes.
Students will be able to create the best clinical setting for the patient.
Course contents
Screening and early diagnosis in Emilia-Romagna
Audio-prosthetic notes: acoustic prostheses and cochlear implants
Historical information on education and rehabilitation of the deaf, with particular attention to the Italian context
Taking charge of the deaf child: the multi-professional team
Communicative development and verbal language in deaf children
Logopedic evaluation of the deaf child: perceptual and linguistic tests and their application; simulations
Speech therapy for deaf children: rehabilitative approaches; definition of goals; work units' and activities' examples
Deafness in clinical complexity
Counseling to Support deaf childrens' Education: Interventions with Family, School, and Educational and Recreational Encounters
Taking charge of post-verbal deaf people: logopedic evaluation, rehabilitation and counseling
Readings/Bibliography
